Tarsus University held its first meeting under the coordination of the Sustainability Commission to address sustainability efforts across the university within an institutional framework. The meeting, attended by representatives from academic and administrative units, began with an opening speech by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Ali Özen, on the university's sustainability vision.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ali Özen emphasised that sustainability should not be considered solely as an environmental approach, but rather as a holistic vision that shapes the management approach of universities with its social, economic and institutional dimensions. He stressed that despite being a young university, Tarsus University has the will to create a strong and feasible roadmap in this area with its innovative and open-minded structure.
During the meeting, it was decided to establish sub-working groups on education, research, green campus, social sustainability, and measurement and reporting to ensure that sustainability activities are carried out more effectively and in a coordinated manner across the university. The aim of these working groups is to ensure that academic and administrative units act in coordination and to make sustainability efforts more visible at the institutional level.
