A conference was held at Tarsus University on the occasion of Victory Day on 30 August, focusing on the place and significance of the Great Offensive and the Great Victory in Turkish history. Moderated by Lecturer Talat Karataş from the Department of Common Courses, the conference featured Prof. Dr. Seyfi Yıldırım, a faculty member at Hacettepe University’s Institute of Atatürk’s Principles and History of the Turkish Revolution, as the guest speaker. During the conference, Prof. Dr. Yıldırım discussed Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s role as Commander-in-Chief during the Great Offensive and assessed the decisive significance of the Great Victory in Turkish history.

Held online, the conference featured Prof. Dr. Seyfi Yıldırım, who stated that the Great Offensive was a significant achievement in world military history and emphasized that it should also be regarded as a historic turning point that shaped the future of Türkiye and determined the fate of the Turkish nation. Highlighting the fact that the Great Victory had a fate-defining significance in Turkish history comparable to the Victory of Manzikert, Yıldırım noted that the Great Offensive, which began on 26 August 1922, culminated in a decisive victory on 30 August. He stated that the Great Offensive, one of the most critical stages of the military phase of the Turkish War of Independence, was carried out following a long and meticulous preparation process. Prof. Dr. Yıldırım further emphasized that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s leadership and command as Commander-in-Chief played a decisive role in securing the victory. The conference, attended by Tarsus University’s academic and administrative staff as well as students, concluded with a question-and-answer session following the participants’ comments and contributions.
